Rees Howells Intercessor by Norman Grubb

I’m not even sure how to do a review of ‘Rees Howells Intercessor’, there’s just too much power within the pages of this book. So, the book is a biography of Rees Howells (a British missionary and the founder of the Wales Bible College). The book was written by Norman Grubb (another British missionary, evangelist and author) who knew Rees personally and felt led to write about his life. It was first published in 1952 and both the author and the book subject have passed on. Regardless, this book continues to bless lives like mine, many many years after.

A friend of mine gave this to me (thanks,Tee) because of my interest- kind of, in intercession. But can I just say that I found Mr. Howells’ intercessory ministry to be on whole new level entirely. At different points while reading this book, I needed time to process His relationship with God and how the Holy Spirit dealt with Him. It was exciting to read about how he learnt to live the life of faith. His faith was tested and expressed during specific healings, revivals at Welsh & East Africa, the setting up of the Bible college with literally no finance, and the world war.

This book reminded me that if God says He will do a thing, best believe that it will happen, no matter how much time passes before it physically manifests. It also seems that the deeper one’s walk is with God, the more ‘earthly’ restrictions one has. What I mean by this is what the scripture ‘all things are lawful but not all things are expedient’ talks about. Because it’s an old book, the grammatical structure may sound a little bit shakespearian. All that being said, I strongly recommend this book. However, I must warn you; it’s not for the spiritually faint hearted.
